What Happens If I Use NRT for an Extended Period of Time?

In the United States NRT's are only approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for short-term use, approximately 3-6 months. The long-term effect of extended use of these products is inconclusive but there appears to be no evidence of adverse health effects. Many people have been able to use the NRT products for a long time without suffering any ill effects. Most independent assessments accept that continued use of NRT is far less dangerous than a return to smoking but you should consult your doctor or pharmacist if you are concerned about the continued use of a NRT product.
